Lessons from my Indian mother
/My mother always taught us "it's not what you put ON you, it's what you put IN you". She is a firm believer in wellness and healing through diet and natural methods. As children, we never took any medications. We didn't have any packaged food items. No boxes of crackers or cookies. No drinks or juices in containers. We never used fancy skin care products. Everything was absolutely fresh.
If we were sick, she would boil water and have us inhale the steam. Or stir up some herbs with natural tea with honey and lemon. Her sisters and brothers in India chew raw garlic daily and swear that for generations, it is the reason their family has been immune from cancer. The list goes on and on. And it's all natural.
My mother also has beautiful skin. She never wore makeup. She never bought any fancy skin products. How does she maintain her beautiful skin at almost 70 years old? She eats highly nutritious foods and is always well hydrated. She does yoga religiously every morning. You never see her without a bottle of water by her side. And she rarely eats outside of her home cooked meals.
I was fortunate to have been raised with such natural habits that have become a part of my life. I hope this blog enables me to share this knowledge with you.
